Having some issues with a straight Git/Make install of XMBC (12) on my Wheezy image.

Basically whenever I launch XMBC and then try any of the exit options (exit, shutdown, reboot) the actual application closes, however nothing else happens after that, and the only way to shutdown the Pi is to either pull the plug, or SSH into it and issue a shutdown command from there.

Is this a common problem people have come across?, is there a solution? I've tried searching, but can't seem to find anything that has the same kind of symptoms.

I'm not at my Pi at the moment, but can provide extra info later if necessary.

There are either too many possible answers, or good answers would be too long for this format. Please add details to narrow the answer set or to isolate an issue that can be answered in a few paragraphs. If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.
