Proven I2C sensors or expansion boards for RPI

Question

Can someone point me to a good list of i2c sensors that will work with RPI - I am interested in pretty much any kind of them. Or perhaps there is an GPIO-mountable expansion board that I could use to host the sensors on?

Ideally, I want a little board with sensors sitting on it that I can wire to RPI's GPIO - are there I2C boards with a few different sensors that I could plug and play?

I'm trying to avoid dealing with hardware as much as possible and focus on programming which is causing much lesser pain :)

I've got a few answers on here using a variety of i2c chips

Temperature with MCP9084
Analog to digital with ADS1115
IO expander using MCP23017

I've also successfully connected a realtime clock module (search ebay for "DS1307 AT24C32"))
