When I boot my R-Pi connected with the TV (using RC4 cable), it booted by default to the console mode without problems. But, when I booted the device connected with my monitor (using HDMI to DVI cable), it booted by default to a GUI login, which is not logging in even with the correct credentials (username: pi, password: raspberry). It returns to the same GUI login, after a black screen. What could be the problem? Somebody help.

That sounds like an X server problem. Try checking the X server logs I think it is /var/logs/Xorg.0.log or so. You might have to configure the right screen section at /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ – Lord Loh. Feb 19 at 22:26

I am not sure what you have to configure. My guess would be either a screen section or a display section. If your X is quitting unexpectedly, see the logs. It should give you a clue. Your problem is not raspberry pi specific. Ask this question on linuxquestions.org or unix.SE and you might get better answers. – Lord Loh. Feb 20 at 19:50
