Oct 5, 2016 at 11:16 comment added Basj Yes, that's precisely the problem! Now in 2016, we can expect for future versions that these data lines will be connected... It's not such a big deal... It would allow tons of new applications, e.g. easy PC <-> Pi setup with a single USB cable, and no networking hassle... (I could even say this is mandatory for RPi4 if they don't want to loose their customers... This is an observation about what people expect, as seen in my local fablab)
Oct 5, 2016 at 11:10 comment added flakeshake As said on most models the Micro-USB port is power (electricity) input only. The data lines are not connected !
Oct 5, 2016 at 11:07 comment added Basj Yes, but there is another micro USB, that could be connected to PC with a standard phone micro-USB cable. (Maybe I didn't understand your remark?)

Oct 5, 2016 at 11:03 comment added Basj Why impossible?
Oct 5, 2016 at 11:02 comment added flakeshake All other models habe an USB hub/Ethernet adaptor combo "in the middle" of such a direct connection which makes device mode impossible.
Oct 5, 2016 at 11:01 comment added Basj Thank you. As said in another comment, it is sad that RPi is late on this point... It is available on A, A+, Zero, and other boards, why not on RPi3 ;) ? I hope it'll be available on RPi4.
