This feature should work no matter the age of the image - not really, the "feature" didn't exist in the very first image, it was introduced "as of the November 2016 release" - those numpties in the two "examples" you gave just don't know what they are doing or are using older images

Again the question: why do you think it doesn't work? Do you checked it on the RasPi with systemctl status ssh ? Please address me with @Ingo, otherwise I won't see your answer.

May 18, 2019 at 23:46 | comment | added | Milliways | Once you have enabled ssh there is no reason to do it again. Any question which claims "it doesn't work" without evidence is unclear and unanswerable | |

Why do you want to do it again? I don't understand your question. This feature (boot partition's ssh file to enable SSH) should work no matter the age of the image, and it should work on a freshly installed Raspbian... Also I don't understand the close vote reason...

Why do you think it doesn't work? Why do you want to do it again? Most of my Raspbian images are 2017-08-16 and a few 2018-11-13 with the smaller OS - there is no need to keep loading new images. Incidentally you don't put the file in /boot BUT in the first partition on the SD Card.
