Several posts recently on the RPF forum. Apparently sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade solves the problem. – Dirk Nov 22 '19 at 11:04

I've had the same issue, what fixed the problem was entering:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall pcmanfm

into the terminal.

  • Clarification: pcmanfm is the default file manager on Raspbian, which is why reinstalling it fixes the problem. – user96931 Nov 23 '19 at 18:45
  • Perfect! It works again, after a reboot – Dan Froberg Dec 12 '19 at 1:14
  • It worked for me as well on a RPi 3 B+. – theme Jan 29 at 13:07
