I just wanted to make a basic image for all my new RPis and I deleted the basic keys in /etc/ssh/ because I thought those are like "example" keys for the first usage. After the deletion I can't access the Pi anymore (kex_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer). No problem, I re-install Raspbian again. But now I'm wondering what these keys are for and why I can't login per SSH anymore after deleting them (all xxx_keyand xxx_key.pub files) and the ssh_import_id file?

pi@raspberrypi-01:/etc/ssh $ ls
moduli ssh_host_dsa_key ssh_host_ed25519_key.pub
ssh_config ssh_host_dsa_key.pub ssh_host_rsa_key
ssh_config.d ssh_host_ecdsa_key ssh_host_rsa_key.pub
sshd_config ssh_host_ecdsa_key.pub ssh_import_id
sshd_config.d ssh_host_ed25519_key
