I am planning to play video on a display that is connected to Raspberry Pi like this:

Pi - HDMI -> AdapterBoard -> 40pin cable -> square display.

Currently, when I am connecting an external screen to RPi running Raspbian (Debian), I see the console output.

Is there a way that I will not have to install a desktop environment to output just several different videos to display, and just control the system via SSH?

    You might want to include the video format in case that is a limitation. omxplayer was made explicitly for this purpose. You will have to read the documentation WRT how to get it to use a particular display when you are logged in remotely. Omxplayer runs on the linux kernel's software framebuffer, no further stack required. – goldilocks Aug 20 '15 at 20:53

  • I have removed the hold, but if all you did was remove the words banana from the question I am not sure you can expect any answers to work. – Steve Robillard Aug 24 '15 at 16:56
