Here is my current problem statement.

I have Raspbian OS running on Raspberry Pi(RPi) board. I(PC) am communicating with RPi using ethernet cable.

Now I want to use adb to communicate with Raspberry Pi, I know that adb can be enabled over ethernet. But currently in my raspbian adbd is not running. So I want to build adbd to run on Raspbian so that I can use adb over ethernet techinque to enable adb communication.

Any suggestions to add/build adbd to Raspbian or to enable adb to communicate between PC and Raspberry Pi will be really help full.

Can we use linux build adbd to run on Raspbian ?

More Details:

The goal is to connect PC to Rasberry Pi using adb over ethernet. Raspberry Pi has Raspbian OS and not Android OS.

As I understand to connect target to PC using adb, it needs adb client to be running on PC and adb server running on target(adbd-adb daemon).

And the target no need to have Android running(I got this understanding because I have linux based phone which is not android based but still I can access this phone from my PC using adb)

So my requirement narrows down to adbd(adb daemon) to be run on Raspberry with Raspbian OS.

Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

  • Please confirm you are referring to the Android Debug Bridge, and that you have made some kind of effort to see if it is available from the distro (apt search adbd). – goldilocks Feb 21 '18 at 16:16
  • @goldilocks Hi, yes I am referring to android debug bridge. Also I have searched Raspberry site and related to sites. I could find that adb can be installed by sudo apt-get install adb, but this only installs adb client to connect other android devices to raspberry, but I need Raspberry Pi board to be connected to PC as adb device and not the other way – Vijeth PO Feb 21 '18 at 18:55

Edit information into the question, do not put it in comments. Anyway, if you mean you literally want the Pi to act as if it were an Android device, you will have to install Android on it. Raspbian is not Android, so you cannot interact with it as if it were (the fact that something uses the linux kernel does not make it an Android system). However, there is not much point in this context, since pretty much everything you can do via adb you can do via ssh, although the methodology might be superficially different. – goldilocks Feb 22 '18 at 15:56
