so I'm working on a project and among others I want to integrate an analog joystick, like those cheap ones that send analog values between 0 and 1023 for x and y movements. The end game is that I could use the functionality in Kodi, but as I am a beginner with raspberry pi, I have absolutely no idea where to start.

I will connect the joystick to an Arduino and interpret the movements of the joystick and output via I2C (can't use anything else because I only have analog I/O left on the Arduino) to the Pi and emulate the joystick to be used in Kodi.

The Arduino part I can handle and I will research I2C communication between the devices. The Pi part is a mistery to me, I have no idea from where I have to start to create some kind of script that interprets the data received from I2C which will be something like "up" "down" "left" "right" "pushbutton" and use them as a normal joystick/arrows from a keyboard to make them work with Kodi.

I'm not asking to do my work for me, just some place to start.

Thanks!
