Last night I set up my Raspberry Pi Model 3B+ as a Samba Server with an External Hard drive. After connecting to it on one of my PCs, I went to sleep. I also had VNC Server set up on the Pi so I had disconnected the monitor at that point. When I woke up in the morning to check on it, the green light was off.

I had planned on backing it up this morning, and now I'm angry that I didn't, but does anyone have any idea about why this happened?

The green light is normally off. By default it lights up to indicate SD card activity, which if the system is idle will not be significant. The red led (power) is what you have to worry about. – goldilocks Jan 17 at 20:21
