I have a weird problem. Just finished a fresh install of 2018-11-13-raspbian-stretch.img (Raspbian Stretch with desktop) on Raspberry Pi 2 Model B V1.1

Did the pre-configuration, passed through update stage, rebooted. Changed the config to boot to CLI, rebooted again. So nothing special. Then I tried to edit some files with nano, but... it isn't working in CLI.

Returns Error opening terminal: unknown.

Fortunatelly this question helped: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1091553/how-do-i-fix-error-opening-terminal-unknown-on-ubuntu-server/1092527

Defining it via TERM=linux solves the problem, but TBH this looks like serious inconvenient to set it up manually every time I'd like to operate directly on the CLI.

How can I make this persistent? I don't recall that requirement when booting up previous releases - or maybe I picked up versions with pre-installed software?
