I want to run the following:

  • Transmission
  • Sickrage
  • Plex (no transcoding)
  • Openvpn (client)

Now for the multiple choice section. Raise your hand to vote:

  1. Each in a separate Docker container on a single headless Pi
  2. Same as 1 but move Plex to a separate Pi
  3. Don't bother, get a NUC
  4. {Insert clever idea here}

Is it more sensible to run openvpn on "the metal" rather than containerized?

I have a lifetime of intuition on x86, but I feel clueless about the Arm.

  • Welcome, we generally avoid "does this work" questions, as they are too vague. Consider that you dont mention which Pi you got, my Pi 3 is a beast compared to a Pi 1, especially at multitasking. You should just try the first option. I've personally run Transmission, Plex and Softether VPN(little more resource hungry than OpenVPN) and the Pi worked fine. Docker on Pi is also fairly widespread. – Vincent P Apr 17 '19 at 4:30
