In contrast to How to force NTPD to update date/time after boot? I would like to have a time synchronisation from the internet once a day.

Background:

We have sometimes power loss in our region. The raspberry boots really quick, but the internet router and the connectivity to the internet takes longer.

So my question is:

what do I have to do to establish time synchronisation on a regular basis, e.g.: once a day?

  • I only know python. So I would use python to sync network time and run the python program once a day, by crontab etc. – tlfong01 Apr 27 at 7:16

    Why are you using an ancient obsolete OS? Current Raspbian doesn't use ntpd by default, and works seamlessly, even in no internet. – Milliways Apr 27 at 8:10

    If you have no internet you will need an RTC module. Wheezy went end-of-life FOUR years ago. Stretch will go end-of-life this autumn. Even with timesyncd in Stretch you can still install ntpd and set it active with sudo timesynctl set-ntp true – Dougie Apr 27 at 8:56
