Partitions are individual divisions of hard disk drives. Drives may be split up in to multiple partitions, so that they act as if many drives were connected.

Correctly partition 4TB drive with enclosure using Pi
Detect drive (in my case /dev/sda)
sudo fdisk -l
Create partitions with gdisk:
sudo gdisk /dev/sda
command: o // remove existing partitions and create a new protective MBR
command: n // create new partition … for bootfs
First sector: 8192
Last sector: 1056767
Hex code: 0700 // for Microsoft basic data type
command: n // create new partition for rootfs
First sector: default
Last sector: default …
