nmap -sT -p22 192.168.1.0/24 should confirm whether the port is really open. If so you should check the logs on the SD card; unfortunately the default logging configuration may complicate that -- you may need to apply journald , since it does not leave a plain text log, or you may get lucky and find one in /var/log .
